Bananas are big business in the central province of Kamphaeng Phet, said to produce exports of its own particularly sweet bananas worth more than THB 200 million each year. The locals celebrate their banana harvest with an annual Kluai Khai Fair, held at temples around the rural province on or about the 23rd September,, to coincide with the full moon and Buddhist Sart celebration. Much of the celebration revolves around local banana dessert Krayasart, a sticky-sweet concoction with peanuts and sesame seeds. There are cookery competitions for the best Krayasart, beauty pageants, local handicraft markets, and even banana eating races.
