Sunrise Seekers

Thais and tourists alike will be heading to Pha Chanadai in Ubon Ratchathani - one of Thailand’s most easterly points - to be among the country’s first people to see the first sunrise of 2018. 

Watching The First Sunrise in Siam is a popular end-of-year activity and involves waiting in the cool northern air for the new dawn’s rosy fingers to rise above the Mekong River. It’s a memorable way to enjoy this scenic region and to mark the New Year.

It’s also possible to see local folk customs and ceremonies and make merit at the local temples, to ensure 2018 is a happy and successful year.
