Phuket’s growing renown as Asia’s top international superyacht venue was dramatically underlined by the success of this sparkling event, staged for the second successive year at luxurious Kata Rocks on the island’s stunning west coast.
As an opulent launch of the Asian Charter Season in early December, it brought together an eclectic VIP mix from international superyacht high society and leading global yachting businesses, including 30 superyacht owners, celebrities and captains of industry.
Gathering for the three-day extravaganza were some of yachting’s most prestigious names, including Feadship and Royal Huisman - brands that normally only showcase together in Monaco and Fort Lauderdale.
More than 20 magnificent yachts assembled offshore Kata Rocks for this Rendezvous , exceeding the previous year’s attendance.
Top yachts vying for attention included Feadship’s 70-metre MY Lady Christine that showcased a radically different exterior design from De Voogt Naval Architects; the 52-metre Phinisi Schooner SY Zen , Burgess’ 51-metre MY Northern Sun , 32-metre MY Princess Sauvage , two Monte Carlo 86 yachts and MY Grace , the 2017 Sunseeker Manhattan 66.
The packed social programme encompassed everything from celebratory parties to private dinners, caviar and vodka tastings, and superyacht brunch cruises. Included was a beach barbeque further north up the coast at The Surin Phuket, cocktail sessions on MY Northern Sun and the MY Princess Sauvage , and a sunset cruise onboard the sleek Zeelander .
Benetti and VistaJet partnered to host a private dinner, with stylish gifts for their VIPs designed by Bangkok-based artisan Alexander Lamont.
During the event programme guests were able to sail from Kata Rocks to step aboard participating superyachts during the Yacht Hop ; and experience SeaDoo’s latest in marine sports toys in a Big Boys’ Toys session.
Royal Huisman joined the Rendezvous and hosted an exclusive brunch to celebrate the Asia launch of its new Pura concept - a radical custom sailing yacht solution that shortens delivery time to owners - while Contest Yachts, a worldwide leader in custom-built sail yachts, celebrated its Asia launch with a special cocktail party.
This year’s Kata Rocks Superyacht Rendezvous is scheduled for 7 to 9 December, with organisers committed to making it even bigger and better as the region’s Must-Attend premier yachting event.
