The quintessential English ritual of Afternoon Tea is being revived in colonial-era style, at the heart of Anantara Riverside Bangkok Resort’s verdant gardens on the banks of the Chao Phraya.

The resort has teamed up with luxury tent designer Escape Nomade to create this nostalgic setting from a bygone era, especially for tea worshippers – and who doesn’t enjoy sipping a cuppa?

There’s certainly enjoyment to be savoured in the cooling shade of this tented sanctuary; it’s a place to revel in old-world charm amidst a medley of taste, aroma and culture while witnessing at close quarters classic Indian, Chinese and Japanese tea ceremonies that have been perfected over centuries.

And in a nod to the tastes of more modern times, there are tea cocktails, mocktails and infusions from the Tea Bar to be lingered over.

Discerning afternoon tea connoisseurs and simple enthusiasts alike can look forward to perfectly decanted tea blend infusions recommended by a tea sommelier, or they can innovate their own from a Tea Menu.

The heritage of Indian tea is recognised in selections of specialty Ayurveda Teas, where spiritual wellness is inspired from the energies of three doshas – Kapha (earth), Vata (air) and Pitta (fire). These teas are chosen to befit the occasion, whether simply celebrating the lush tropical surroundings or enjoying a leisurely afternoon tête-à-tête.

Afternoon Tea would be a dull affair without nibbles, and this Step-Back-into-the-Past indulgence offers a choice of two Afternoon Tea menus: Indigenous Camp Afternoon Tea honours the essence of the luxury tent with savouries and pastries given a touch of eastern flavours, blended with rich organic ingredients.

Traditional Afternoon Tea is a homage to Anna, seventh Duchess of Bedford, who in the early 1800s began the fashion for Afternoon Tea among high societies of the period. This is the unmistakably true British version with finger sandwiches, fruit tarts, Victoria sponge cake and of course, English scones.

Queen Victoria would most certainly be amused.
